Become a mathematical problem solver able to tackle challenging issues from technology to healthcare.

Can you predict when something goes viral? How do you model 5G? What happens in your brain when an epileptic seizure occurs? These questions all have one thing in common: mathematics is the way to come up with answers. In this 2 years master’s at the University of Twente (UT) you will apply mathematics to challenging issues in the most diverse sectors, ranging from technology to healthcare. You will learn how to discover new patterns and how to predict them through mathematical models. As a graduate you will have an impact on society as well as be in huge demand on the job market. 

Specializations
  • Mathematical Systems Theory, Applied Analysis and Computational Science. How can diabetics always keep their blood sugar at a certain level? How can computer simulations help to identify brain regions causing symptoms of epilepsy? How do you determine the exact moment at which a machine needs maintenance without wasting production time? In this specialisation you will delve deeper into systems theory, applied analysis and computational science. You will also explore related fields of application, such as life sciences, control theory, material sciences, and geo sciences. You will learn to develop new models and apply existing ones to improve our understanding of processes.
  • Mathematics of Data Science. How can you predict when something goes viral on Twitter by modelling social media networks? How to choose the most suitable location for a new fire station based on available data from the region? And when is data actually usable? In this specialisation you will apply mathematical models and algorithms to analyse data, draw conclusions and make decisions. You will learn about new developments in fields such as machine learning, big data and statistics. Most importantly, you will learn about the underlying mathematics.
  • Operations Research. How do you make a complete residential area energy neutral? How should an Operating Room schedule in a hospital be designed? How do you optimise business processes? How to model 5G? These are just a few of the issues addressed in this specialisation. In OR you will learn how to design mathematical methods that allow the team you work in to find optimal solutions.

The programme offers an environment where you can specialize in modern mathematical techniques, working closely with other academic disciplines such as physics, (industrial) engineering, logistics and computer science. You will be considered a junior member of the research department and actively participate in your supervisor’s research programme.

Reikalaujamas išsilavinimas

Į magistro studijų programas gali stoti visi, baigę universitetą arba besimokantys paskutiniame kurse. Studijos kurias baigei ar tebesimokai turi būti panašios krypties kaip ir tos, į kurias nori stoti, kadangi priėmimas yra paremtas ECTS kreditų suderinamumu.

  • ECTS kreditų išrašas - jei dar nesi baigęs aukštosios mokyklos, būtina prisegti ECTS kreditų išrašą, kuriame būtų matyti, kokius dalykus tu mokeisi bei kokius pažymius ir kiek kreditų už juos gavai. Kai siunti anketą paskutiniame kurse, diplomą reikia prisegti vėliau, kai tik jį gausi.
  • Bakalauro diplomas – jei jau esi baigęs aukštąją mokyklą, išrašo nereikia, užtenka prie anketos prisegti savo Bakalauro diplomą.
Anglų kalbos reikalavimai

Anglų kalbos žinias gali patvirtinti vienu iš šių būdų:

  • IELTS – 6.5
  • TOEFL – 90
Svarbūs reikalavimai
  • Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, or an equivalent qualification. 

  • Knowledge of the following topics: Calculus (8-12 ECTS credits) and (linear) Algebra (5 ECTS credits) and Abstract Reasoning (5 ECTS credits).

Graduates of the Master’s programme in Applied Mathematics find employment in numerous sectors of industry and academia such as R&D departments in industry, consultancy firms, research and teaching positions, teaching at high schools and even higher management.

In our technology-dependent society, commercial and governmental organizations have a growing need for professionals with an up-to-date background in applied mathematics at an academic level.
