MSc in Environmental Engineering
Why choose Environmental Engineering?
Major climate challenges and scarce natural resources place great demands on the way we produce, consume and handle waste and wastewater. On the Master’s programme in Environmental Engineering, you learn to develop solutions that can reduce environmental impact and point towards a more sustainable direction.
The programme gives you comprehensive knowledge of the environmental consequences of our consumption and of the technologies and methods that can be used to create more environmentally friendly and resource-efficient products, processes and systems.
As an environmental engineer, you become a specialist in developing sustainable solutions for companies, public authorities, consultancies and research environments. You gain competences that are relevant to industry, waste management, wastewater, product development and strategic sustainability work.
What will you learn?
On the programme, you work with three central disciplines: sustainability, environmental engineering and environmentally efficient technology. You learn to understand global environmental challenges and to design products and processes from an environmental perspective.
Within environmental engineering, you work with strategies and technologies for managing and treating industrial wastewater and waste. Within environmentally efficient technology, you learn to use methods and tools to analyse the environmental impact of technologies, systems, products and processes.
You gain competences to develop environmentally and resource-efficient solutions at several levels – from specific technological processes to strategies for reducing environmental impact and resource consumption.
Teaching methods
The programme takes place in an international study environment, with teaching in English. You become part of a project-based and collaborative learning environment, where you work in project groups.
The projects are often based on real-world problems from companies, and emphasis is placed on working with solutions that can be used in practice. In the third semester, there is an opportunity to carry out in-company projects, and SDU generally encourages engineering students to study abroad for at least one semester.
Užsakant testo rezultato išsiuntimą iš centro naudoti University of Southern Denmark kodą 7969. Rinkitės "other - department not listed".
You can apply if you hold another Bachelor’s degree within Science or Engineering. To be considered, your degree must include a minimum of:
- 10 ECTS in Mathematics
- 5 ECTS in Statistics
What does the programme lead to?
The Danish environmental sector experiences an increasing demand for employees with knowledge of both environmental biology and environmental chemistry as well as of technological solutions. Danish companies also undertake many environmental tasks abroad.
With a master degree you will be qualified for jobs as, for example:
- Project worker or manager in consulting engineering companies
- Consultant in local and regional governments
- Caseworker in public administration
- Engineer at environmental or development departments
You could, for example, work in:
- Resource recovery and waste management
- Environment assessment (e.g., corporate accounts, product development)
- Planning of urban traffic infrastructure
- Development of environmentally efficient technologies
- Assessment of environmental impact of off-site construction work
- Implementation and management of environmental installations
- Assessment of strategic and market ventures
- University research or industrial research
