The Embedded Systems Masters track teaches you how to design and implement smart distributed systems that are low cost, energy efficient and can solve tasks cooperatively. You will learn to design and implement architectures for distributed embedded systems, innovation services and advanced algorithms to solve complex tasks. You will also learn to model and validate complex non-linear systems with multiple inputs and outputs using UML and/or SysML, black box modelling and system identification. And you will learn how to create a digital feedback controller for a linear physical system and to apply control strategies.

Good reasons to apply

This Masters course:

  • Gives the industry an innovative impulse with its Centre of Expertise

  • Kick-starts your career with great job opportunities

  • Puts you in close vicinity of international companies like KEMA laboratories and NXP Semiconductors

Open days and evenings

If you live in or near the Netherlands, come and meet us at one of our open evenings. You will get the chance to meet our lecturers and students and to get acquainted with our courses and facilities. Visit an open day or evening and take a look for yourself.

Collaboration with industry

This course is supported by companies that provide trainers, share knowledge and facilitate major projects and excursions. These companies include

  • KEMA Laboratories (DVN GL)

  • NXP Semiconductors

  • Local SMEs

In this Masters course, you will focus on becoming an authority on modelling and smart distributed Systems. You will learn to design and implement architectures for distributed embedded systems, innovation services and advanced algorithms to solve complex tasks. Students will learn to model and validate complex non-linear systems with multiple inputs and outputs using UML and/or SysML, black box modelling and system identification. Students will learn how to create a digital feedback controller for a linear physical system and to apply control strategies. You will learn to model and validate systems with multiple inputs and outputs using both white box modelling and system identification. You focus on control applications used in industry.

Overview

The course consists of:

  • lectures
  • individual and group assignments
  • experimental research and laboratory exercises
  • model development and simulation exercises
  • group cases
  • minor projects
  • a major project including a management game

Teaching methods and specialisation

The academic year comprises of semesters, during which you will be taught by means of lectures, lab sessions and minor projects. After the teaching component of the course, you will do a graduation project (thesis). The total study load is 2520 hours (90 ECTS credits). The courses are thematically grouped into study units of 15 EC each called modules. When you follow a module in a typical week you first have a lecture to gain theoretical knowledge, then you get practical experience by applying the gained knowledge in labs, continuing by using both theoretical and practical experience in solving a problem from industry in a minor project. The minor projects allow you to specialize in relevant topics.

  • IELTS
  • TOEFL
Kiti reikalavimai

Relevant Bachelors degree

To enrol in the Master track of Embedded Systems, you need a Bachelors degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
Knowledge of English
You also need to have sufficient knowledge of the English language and therefore must have one of the following:
  • TOEFL score 550 or higher
  • IELTS score 6.5 or higher
  • Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English
  • Cambridge Certficate of Proficiency in English

Profession

As an embedded systems engineer you are involved in the design, development, production an evaluation of all kind of intelligent systems and smart devices.  You also possess valuable skills in applied research and project management.

Your future

As a graduate of the Mastertrack in Embedded Systems you develop innovative electronic products using microcontrollers. They often work in a team with other engineers and people from other disciplines. Using customer requirements and specifications, the embedded software/hardware developer develops the electronic hardware and software that make up a high-tech product. The content of this Master’s programme is based on our constant interactions with our industrial partners and our applied research focuses on their needs and interests.
