Cinematography (Met Film School)
The one year CertHE Cinematography course is offered by Met Film School, London's leading provider of practical filmmaking courses, based at Ealing Studios.
The one year CertHE Cinematography course is designed to provide intensive practical and theoretical training in cinematography for both film and television. You will work alongside industry professionals and with the latest technologies to develop your expertise and knowledge in this discipline.

This course has been developed with the support of outstanding industry partners, and classes are taught by active industry professionals, preparing students for working life by combining the latest industry tools, technology and practice with a solid foundation in the critical skills in practical filmmaking. The CertHE Cinematography course is validated by the University of West London. The National Film and Television School (NFTS) is the Met Film School's advisory partner.
The one year CertHE Cinematography course will provide you with fundamental skills and experience in all key areas of cinematography. Throughout this programme you will gain experience in a wide range of fields across camera, lighting and grip departments. You will learn to shoot on Super 16 and 35mm film as well as on digital cinema, tape and tapeless camera systems, including RED, D20, Si2K, F950, F750, JVC HM700. You will leave equipped with the skills required to confidently enter the industry, fulfilling roles ranging from Director of Photography, Camera Assistant, Focus Puller, Clapper Loader, Grip, Gaffer and many others to an expert level.
By the end of the one year CertHE Cinematography course you will understand the role of cinematography and the basic technical and scientific principles behind the craft. You will also have developed specialist skills in cinematography and have an informed appreciation of composition, lighting and grading. Furthermore, you will be practiced in, and have an understanding of operating, lighting, gripping and digital technology. You will have been involved in the creation of three short films both individually and collaboratively plus of number of practical filmed exercises, equipping you with an impressive cinematography showreel.

The course is designed to give students a broad range of generic skills, from analytical thinking to communication, negotiation, and teamwork, which will position them well for the possibility of employment across all industries. In addition, the intense filmic experience and study of a broad range of key film skills means that the CertHE Cinematography course will give students the crucial foundational knowledge to compete well in the market for new entrant work within the film industry.
The close industry contacts of the Met Film School and the professional creditability of its teaching staff means that there is direct industry involvement in the design and delivery of the course.
A dedicated strand of professional development throughout the course will help students plan their first steps after completing the course.
