Besides acquiring knowledge during the theoretical classes, you will already gain a lot of practical experience during your first year. You will be working in our own Teaching Hotel and accompanying student restaurant Refresh. Within these unique learning environments, you will learn how to provide and care for real guests.
During our four-year study programme, we combine theory with practice and invest a great deal in your personal development and guidance.
Our education is small-scale, whereby you will work intensively in project groups. This is put into practice when organizing an event, running the Teaching Hotel or solving a realistic business case. You will also gain experience during two company-based practical and management internships.
What will you learn?
In the first year of the bachelor study programme of Hotel Management School Maastricht, you will become acquainted with the hotel industry. You will study English and one other modern foreign language and follow courses such as marketing, management accounting and both operations and human resource management.
In the second year of our 4-year bachelor programme you will participate in an internship abroad. Furthermore, we will continue expanding your core knowledge.
The third and fourth year are all about hotel management and change management. In this phase, you will show that you can also function at a strategic level. You will choose your own courses, whereby specializing during the last year and a half of the programme. An exchange to a partner university is also an option. The last five months of the course are reserved for your management internship.

- Brandos atestatas – jei jau esi baigęs mokyklą, išrašo nereikia, užtenka anketoje prisegti savo Brandos atestatą.

- Motyvacinis laiškas yra NEprivalomas dokumentas stojant į šio universiteto programas.
- Stojant į Hotel Management programą reikės atlikti Selection procedure. Pastarąją sudaro 2 dalys:
1. writing assignment;
2. personality test bei interviu.
Anglų kalbos žinias gali patvirtinti vienu iš šių būdų:
- turėti anglų kalbos pažymį Brandos atestate ir išlaikyti Anglų kalbos valstybinį egzaminą (egzamino rezultatas nėra svarbus, svarbiausia, kad jį išlaikytum)*
arba
- išlaikyti IELTS arba TOEFL testą.
*Jeigu nori pasitikrinti ar tavo anglų kalbos žinios yra pakankamos studijuoti Nyderlandų aukštosiose – suteikiame galimybę laikyti Oxford anglų kalbos testą. Nors anglų kalbos testas nėra reikalaujamas, patartina žinoti savo galimybes ir kalbos lygį.
- Proof of advanced knowledge of a second modern language (for example exam subject or acknowledged Language Certificate at A2 level or above). International students whose mother tongue is French, German or Spanish are barred from choosing that particular language.
- During the first selection day you will be assigned a writing assignment. Within this assignment we will ask you to reflect on a concrete statement. After the first selection day you will be informed whether or not you will be advancing to the next phase.
Although not a requirement, we strongly recommend applicants to complete business related courses such as economics, finance, accounting, management etc. in secondary school.
Although not an official requirement, we recommend applicants to gain hospitality related work experience. This is something we really value at HMSM. If you take a gap year in which you undertake activities to better prepare for our programme, please do feel free to let us know as we will surely take this into account.

Graduates of Hotel Management School Maastricht usually find a job quickly. The main reason for this is that the hospitality industry recognizes them as good employees with an excellent attitude and a thorough basic knowledge. This makes them suitable for a variety of positions.
Various sectors
Wherever you go in the world, you will meet alumni of the Hotel Management School Maastricht. Many of them have managerial jobs in the international hotel industry, but our students are also in demand elsewhere. They may, for instance, work in management or consultancy jobs, for healthcare institutions or service companies, in the conference and exhibition sector and in financial services. Banks and insurance companies select our students for their customer-focus. Take a look at some of the positions our graduates hold.
Self-employed
After graduation from the Hotel School, you may opt to start your own business. Your degree will fulfil the requirement of professional competence for starting or taking over a hotel, restaurant or wine merchant company.
International career
If you wish to start an international career, you can apply to many hotel chains for a manager in training programme. Every year, representatives of various hotel chains give presentations on the career opportunities in their organizations.
