Prepare for a career in the world's fastest growing industry!

New demands from increasingly sophisticated consumers imply that tourism marketers need to renew their experience offers, promotion and organisational practices continually. Furthermore, public actors must think of new ways to optimise conditions for businesses while simultaneously taking care of natural resources and cultural heritage so that local populations can thrive alongside tourists. The Tourism Programme at Aalborg University addresses the complexity and dynamics of such challenges from a broad social scientific perspective.

The Tourism Programme at Aalborg University is a two-year Master's degree which is offered in English in the university's campuses in Aalborg and in Copenhagen. Aalborg University - in both locations - is the ideal place for your studies if you appreciate the informal and egalitarian tradition of Scandinavia combined with practical, project-oriented learning.

A Master's degree in Tourism from Aalborg University will enable you to manage tourism related projects concerning product and promotion development, organisational transformations and policy issues within one of the largest and most important industries in the world.

A study designed for professional careers in the experience society

Research and teaching activities in Tourism at Aalborg University build on a close collaboration with both private and public organisations in the tourism industry. Joint projects enable us to make use of academic competences in the development of new concepts, to improve marketing campaigns and adapt organisational strategies to a constantly changing market. These practical research and development projects provide central input for the teaching activities.

A few examples of collaboration projects:

  • Demands and decision making in family holidays in collaboration with Visit Denmark
  • Experience design on the island of Møn in collaboration with Team Møn and Møn Tourism Board
  • Assessment of the Tourism Policy Programme for Erhvervs- og Boligstyrelsen
  • Branding Blokhus in collaboration with Pandrup Business Council
  • Storytelling development along the Limfjord in collaboration with destinations in North & West Jutland
