Energy consumption continues to accelerate in the developed world as communities become richer. Generating enough sustainable power to satisfy demand, while minimising the damage to the environment, is therefore a massive problem. Engineers are the only people who will be able to provide a solution to this problem. We provide a course that:
Is supported by the top Industrial Placement Unit in the country.
Will provide the educational background for Chartered Engineer status.
Has its own wind and solar power facility.
You will acquire an excellent grounding in both electrical and mechanical principles, alongside a sound understanding of the business side of the industry. We offer you the opportunity to develop skills in a range of power generation technologies including nuclear, wind, tidal and solar, in addition to more traditional fossil fuels. You will explore aspects of the energy industry, centred on large scale electrical power generation and distribution, while assessing the effective use of power by the consumer, micro generation schemes and combined heat and power systems.
The placement year provides the opportunity for further personal development, helping you to build on the knowledge and skills developed on the course. You will gain in experience, maturity and motivation and return better equipped to succeed in your studies.
You will have the added benefit of dedicated support from our award winning Placement Unit, who recently won 'Best Placement Service' in the UK, at the Rate my Placement awards 2011.
With an excellent track record of placements in engineering, they are in contact with many companies both locally and nationally.
90% of our students, who studied a Mechanical engineering related course and graduated in 2009, have secured employment or gone on to further study.
Graduates go on to work in the conventional, nuclear and renewable electricity generation industries with large energy producers such as Drax Power, British Energy, NPower and EDF Energy.
