Leadership and Practice in Early Childhood
During this early childhood and leadership degree, you'll extend the depth and breadth of your knowledge of babies, young children, and families, to develop your understanding of early childhood provision in local and international contexts.
Modules with a leadership focus will equip you with theory and understanding of the changing early years business and management environment, to enable you to navigate, adapt, and innovate within early childhood contexts such as nursery schools, pre-schools, and kindergartens.
You'll develop skills in ethical practice and critical reflection, and investigate issues of sustainability, to evaluate and challenge the effects of business and management practices before making judgements that consider values and implications for practice.
Our aim is for you to graduate as a reflective and ethical leader, who evaluates and challenges both the positive and negative effects of business and management practices in early childhood settings.
You'll gain depth and breadth of knowledge about babies, young children, and childhood, that will enable you to develop an understanding of early childhood provision in both local and international contexts.
Leadership and business modules will equip you with the necessary in-depth theory and understanding of the changing business and management environment, to enable you to innovate and solve problems in early childhood settings.
Modules with a focus on childhood will enable you to explore theory, research, and practice in the field of early childhood education and care, to prepare you for independent research study in your final year.
Throughout the course, teaching and assessments will link back to professional practice within an early childhood context. You'll learn to think critically, to build reciprocal relationships with children, and to liaise with parents and network with other education professionals.

Leadership and management roles in early childhood settings could include Room Leader or Setting Manager. You'll also be equipped for national and international leadership and child, family, and community advocacy roles.
