English Literature and History BA

We offer a broad ranging course allowing you to explore a chronologically wide range of English Literature and History.

We have a friendly, hands-on approach to delivering our courses. Our staff are high achievers in their research fields – the latest research exercises adjudged 90% of History research work to be internationally recognised, with 50% world leading.

History achieved 100% student satisfaction in the 2012 National Student Survey, and English Literature had 100% in the 2013 survey, reflecting the enthusiasm our students have for the course at Huddersfield and the staff who deliver it.

All of our modules equip you with the skills needed by the world of work, such as good communication and analytical skills, independent and team working, and problem solving. In addition, we have innovative assessments such as creating an exhibition for a local museum, making a podcast on 1970s culture, or creating a visitor trail for a national museum. We were also the first university English and History department to introduce a work placement module (see 'Placements' below).
