This new and innovative MA provides a course of study that critically redefines the role of urban design in the future development of our cities, critically re-evaluating the short-comings and failures of urban design policies and strategies. The study of urbanism has recently become an area of major educational and research focus in universities, reflecting growing concerns among academics and the profession about the impact of relentless expansion of cities on the environment, and the inability of many current planning laws and urban policies to effectively manage such change. At the same time, this interest in urban issues has also been motivated by increasing awareness of the destruction of urban heritage in cities, and the growing geographical variability of urban wealth in many countries (such as the United Kingdom) resulting in significant social and economic divisions.
A key thesis of this programme of study is that alternative forms of urban strategy need to be developed which more effectively integrate the many strands of planning law, socio-economic policy, infrastructural development and architectural design. In response to the rapidly changing urban environment of our cities, the programme will provide a rigorous academic and design-based framework for exploring the impact of technological, economic, socio-political and cultural developments on urban design and planning, highlighting key priorities for shaping of our cities in the future. The programme will build upon expertise developed in the existing and innovative MA in Architecture (International) at the Department of Architecture and 3D at Huddersfield.
A unique feature of the programme will be an investigation of the impact of globalisation and advances in the technological age on regional urbanism, and how regional cities in different parts of the world are addressing their prospects for sustained growth, in the midst of rapidly expanding metropolises.

Tu laukei ilgai. Kantriai žaidei pagal taisykles, kurios buvo ne tavo. Tu laukei. Ir sulaukei. Mokyklos era baigiasi. Šiandien jau Tavęs laukia pasaulis. Kur skrisi? Kur mokysiesi? Kur linksminsiesi? Kur atrasi naujus draugus? Kur iš naujo atrasi save?...
