Chemistry is the central science and is fundamental in the manufacture of everyday products like pharmaceuticals, personal care products, fuel, clothing, packaging, components for electrical devices, etc. Chemists are also at the forefront of initiatives to improve the environment through monitoring, modelling and the development of new environmentally friendlier alternatives to existing products and procedures.

This four year integrated Master’s has a year in industry allowing you to see your subject in action in the real world. As well as gaining an extensive knowledge of chemistry, you will also learn how to problem-solve and how to plan and carry out cutting-edge academic and applied research. The course has been designed with a modern four-way splitbetween organic, inorganic, physical and analytical chemistry as analytical chemistry is an area where there has been an expansion in job opportunities in recent years.

Practical skills are developed throughout the course and you will get hands on experience of a wide range of experimental techniques and instrumentation. You will spend the third year in industry, learning more about chemistry in the real world as well as undertaking an industrially relevant research project. The final year includes advanced topics in chemistry and a substantial research project in one of the areas of expertise within the department, which include medicinal and synthetic chemistry, catalysis, supramolecular chemistry, analytical chemistry and forensic science.

Optional modules in biology, forensic science, chemical engineering and medicinal chemistry are available in the second and final years.

We believe that this essential component of the MChem degree is an invaluable experience as it provides that vital element of relevant work experience which so many employers demand. Many graduates have been offered full-time jobs by their placement employers. Equally importantly, over the years we have seen how it has boosted students’ self confidence and their performance in the final year.

We will provide guidance and support to help you secure a placement. Supervised, salaried placements are available in a wide variety of chemistry related organisations (e.g. pharmaceutical companies, chemical manufacturers, food companies, hospital laboratories, research organisations, etc.), both in the UK and abroad.

Reikalaujamas išsilavinimas

Stojant į šį universitetą dėmesys yra kreipiamas į pažymius ir Brandos atestato vidurkį, kuris turi būti ne žemesnis kaip 8.

Brandos atestatas – jei jau esi baigęs mokyklą, išrašo nereikia, užtenka prie Kastu stojimo anketos prisegti savo Brandos atestatą.

Anglų kalbos reikalavimai

Svarbu, jog anglų kalbos testo rezultatai universitetą pasiektų iki Liepos 31d.

Anglų kalbos žinias gali patvirtinti vienu iš šių būdų:

Anglų kalba B2 lygis + valstybinis anglų kalbos egzaminas išlaikytas 75% ir daugiau.
Kastu anglų kalbos testas (jei turi gerą įvertinimą iš IELTS/TOEFL, tau nereikia laikyti Kastu anglų kalbos testo).
IELTS - 6.0
TOEFL – 80

Many graduates from this course have moved into PhD programmes. Others have gone on to work in; research and development - management - production and process control - marketing - technical writing - teaching.

Previous graduates have secured employment in companies involved in pharmaceuticals - oil - plastics - agrochemicals - metals - textiles - glass - paint - cosmetics - printing - food and drink.

There are also opportunities in the following industries: gas - coal - electricity - steel - water -health - forensic science - atomic energy.
